Faridah Nakazibwe Frustrated With High Costs Of Internet In Uganda

News anchor Faridah Nakazibwe is frustrated with the increasing costs of internet in Uganda every day. She said something needs to be done quickly before things get out of hand in this economy.

In Uganda, most of the youth use internet to earn a living. Some of them are on TikTok trying to make money as influencers. Others are feeding off YouTube which also needs so much data.

These youths would have been unemployed if there was no internet but government is not even considering that. Instead of reducing the costs of data, companies are using the opportunity to make money by increasing the data prices.

And as someone who uses internet everyday, Faridah Nakazibwe said there should be a discussion about the costs of data.

According to the TV show host, data is no longer a luxury but a basic need.

Now all the information gets to people fast through social media. She said even the entertainment needed so much is through social media but people are not considering that.

“Maybe one day we shall have a discussion on how expensive the internet is.🙌🏽 In such a day, data/the internet shouldn’t be considered a luxury but rather a basic need where young & old people learn. Where small businesses thrive, where information gets accessed easily. And where people receive the very much needed entertainment and so much more,” Faridah Nakazibwe tweeted.

She, therefore, asked stake holders to make the internet affordable for everyone. She said it is very expensive and the ordinary people trying to make ends meet need a consideration.

“Question is; what are the biggest stakeholders in this willing to do to make the internet a bit more affordable, because these internet charges are more of tariffs!🙌🏽 The internet is ridiculously expensive and we need your consideration,”
