How Free Is The Media During The Election Process?

Is the media really free to broadcast the whole election process as it has to. It has been two days of the presidential nomination and so much has been witnessed in regards to the media. Its been really hard to capture some moments. If it’s this hard now, then how shall it be in 2021 when the general elections will be held.

The freedom of expression has been really compromised with the help of the police that have not made it any easy. It’s really absurd that some journalists have been arrested just for doing their job.

The most infuriating thing is that every time such brutality takes place, all the police does is say sorry without taking any actions against the officers that carried the arrests.

Does the government know that they need the media as much as it needs them? Does the police know that they need the media as they need them too? So why treat journalists like they mean nothing to this generation.

We are in a very crucial time in our country where people need to decide wisely. How will people decide if they can’t access information because the journalists can’t freely make news? Parliament should revise Article 29 of the constitution especially on police matters.

They should understand that the media needs freedom of expression not just when the government in power is speaking but even when the opposition parties are speaking.

The media needs more respect than its given. Not because of anything but because they deserve it.
