Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda Wonders Why The First Lady Doesn’t Attend Parliament

Kira Municipality MP, Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda has wondered why the First Lady doesn’t attend Parliament. His submission was in reference to the absence of Opposition MPs.

This is particularly NUP who have been boycotting plenary sessions as a form of protests over their missing supporters.

The Speaker of Parliament, Hon Anita Among passed some hard rules for these MPs. They included cancelling their travel arrangements.

According to Anita Among, these MPs are paid to be in the August house and apparently they aren’t doing that. This, therefore, shows lack of accountability for taxpayers money and their respective constituencies.

Hon Ssemujju, however, said that he doesn’t understand why these MPs have to face these tough sanctions from the Speaker.

This is because the likes of the Minister, Janet Museveni never attends Parliament. The vocal MP added that even his good friend, the Internal Affairs Minister, Gen Kahinda Otafire doesn’t attend.

“Every time they talk about the issue of attendance, I raise the question of Minister Kataaha who doesn’t attend Parliament. Even her vetting was done on Zoom. Even my good friend Otafiire never attends parliament.”

Meanwhile the speaker said that these MPs have been demanding for an answer from the government over the case they presented.

However, when the report came through, they were absent and there is no way she could present it. Furthermore, she said she shouldn’t be held liable for the current Opposition impasse.

She also urged the boycotting MPs to return to Parliament, instead of thinking that their issues will be solved in their boardrooms.
