IGANGA: Three Perish In Two Road Crashes Along Tirinyi Highway

IGANGA: Three Perish In Two Road Crashes Along Tirinyi Highway

Police in Iganga district are investigating the cause of two separate road crashes which occurred along Iganga-Tirinyi road on Tuesday night. The accidents claimed the lives of three people at Nawangisa and Bukoona respectively.

The Busoga East police spokesperson SSP Diana Nandawula identified the deceased persons as Kibirige Micheal and Nkenge Peter. The four injured victims in both motor vehicles were yet to be identified by press time.

“The first accident occurred at around 8:45 pm on Tuesday, involving a Toyota Probox which was trying to overtake. It however collided with a land cruiser at Nawangisa along Iganga-Tirinyi road,” SSP Diana Nandawula confirmed.

According to Nandawula, “the driver of a Probox and another occupant died on reaching the hospital. The other two are undergoing treatment at Iganga general hospital after getting injuries. The two occupants of the land cruiser were rushed to Jinja regional referral hospital for medical management”.

She however told this website that there was yet another crash, a hit and run at Bukoona village, Nakalama Sub-county in Iganga district. In this particular incident, a suspected insane person was knocked dead.

“The other accident was at Bukoona village at around 2 am on Wednesday where a suspected insane man was knocked in a hit and run accident. The body of this person has been taken to Iganga general hospital mortuary for autopsy,” Ms Nandawula said.

The regional police spokesperson rallied the general public to always be vigilant, careful and responsible while using the roads. She also cited that the preliminary reports showing careless driving and speeding as the causes for the two separate nasty crashes.
