Police Releases Statement Over The Attacks On Students In Kasese

The Uganda Police has released a statement over the horrific attacks in Kasese. This attack claimed a number of lives of students leaving others in critical condition and others captives.

The country woke up to shocking news on the 17th of June 2023. This is after it was revealed that about 25 students have been killed and 8 others are in critical condition at Lhubirira secondary school, in Mpondwe, Kasese district.

Police sources further say that a dormitory was set on fire while a food store was looted. The victims currently are at Bwera Hospital.

A search towards Virunga national park has also already been mounted by the Police and UPDF. Although there is no confirmation yet, rumors have it that it could have been the ADF behind these attacks.

“Last night, we registered a terrorist attack by the ADF rebels, on Lhubirira secondary school, in Mpondwe, which is located about 2 kms, from the DRC border. A dormitory was burnt and a food store looted. So far 25 bodies have been recovered from the school and transferred to Bwera Hospital. Also recovered are 8 victims, who remain in critical condition at Bwera Hospital.”

“A hot pursuit by the UPDF and the police is ongoing, towards Virunga national park. We do offer our deepest condolences to the families of those who have been killed, and offer our prayers and thoughts to those who have been wounded. More details will be availed in due course.” Police statement reads.
