Public Transport Starts Operating Today After 42 Days Of Lockdown

Public transport has resumed operations today again after being under lockdown for over 42 days. The president in his speech on Friday opened public transport and instructed them to start work today.

Obviously, it came with so many conditions, otherwise, they were warned that they may go back under lockdown. Most public means actually parked on their various stages yesterday.

Taxis were advised to carry half the capacity of what they should take on, that is 7 people. With this, they were advised to observe SOPs, for example, washing hands, social distance, wearing masks.

Of course, they were encouraged to also observe the curfew time which was maintained at 7 pm. The opening of public transport was not only a joy to drivers but also to the users.

Closing transport was like just locking down the whole country. This is because it’s the most used means if not the only means to reach various places.

However, much as the government reopened public transport, they have not yet permitted them to move across districts. Only private cars were permitted to have interdistrict movements. We know the government is being careful with this move.

The predicted third wave is just around the corner if it happens as predicted. Scientists were saying by the end of August, the third wave will have set in.

Transport means were noted to be among the top spreaders of Covid because they were not observing SOPs. However, due to the need to survive and people to go back to work, transport was reopened but this is not to be taken for granted.
