Speaker Clarifies: No MP Received Bribes To Prevent Merger Of Government Agencies

In a recent statement, the Speaker of Parliament, Ms Anita Among has categorically denied allegations suggesting that Members of Parliament were bribed to obstruct the merger of government agencies.

The Speaker firmly refuted the claims, asserting that no MP had received any form of inducement or financial incentive to safeguard the status quo.

The allegations emerged following a contentious debate in Parliament regarding the proposed merger of several government agencies.

The Speaker, while addressing the media, dismissed the notion that any illicit activity had taken place, firmly stating that the decision to oppose the merger was made based on legitimate concerns and parliamentary procedures.

According to the Speaker, parliamentary discussions are guided by principles of transparency, accountability, and the best interests of the nation.

The decision to reject the merger proposal was not influenced by personal gain or any form of bribery, but rather by a genuine assessment of the potential implications and consequences of such a move.

The Speaker emphasized that Members of Parliament have a responsibility to critically examine and debate government policies and proposals for the benefit of the citizens they represent. This duty, he stressed, is carried out with utmost integrity and dedication.

In response to the allegations, the Speaker called for responsible journalism and urged the media to verify information before publishing sensationalized reports.

He expressed concern over the potential damage caused by baseless accusations, stating that such claims undermine the public’s trust in the parliamentary process.

The Speaker concluded by reiterating his commitment to upholding the principles of parliamentary democracy and ensuring that the legislative process remains free from corruption and undue influence.

He called on all stakeholders to respect the integrity of Parliament and work together for the betterment of the nation.

In light of the Speaker’s unequivocal denial and his reaffirmation of parliamentary values, it is essential to treat the allegations of bribery with caution and prudence.

As the matter unfolds, it is crucial to rely on verified information and credible sources, allowing the truth to prevail in the interest of justice and transparency.
