Uganda Has Reduced Testing Time From 120hours to 72hours For Travelers

Uganda has reduced the Covid-19 testing time from 120 hours to 72 hours for all travelers coming in and out of the country. Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services at the health ministry communicated this through a letter.

“All travelers arriving or departing from Uganda are required to have a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of travel with effect from 3 July 2021. Please note that the 72 hours begins on the day the sample is collected for testing,” Dr. Mwebesa said.

Authorities promoted because of the increasing number of covid patients. The testing time of 120 hours have been far from the time to travel because someone can contract the virus in between that time. It would be really hard to detect because they present negative results at the airport.

What the new guidelines state;

According to the new guidelines, departing and arriving travelers must request for a car sticker online. This is to ease movement within districts. Katushabe Winston, the Commissioner Transport Safety and Regulation at the Ministry of Works and Transport issued these guidelines.

Uganda is currently battling the second wave of Covid-19. Unlike the first wave, cases are fast rising this time round. This was the cause of 42 lockdown days and we have only moved 11 so far. The rate at which the virus has spread has overwhelmed the hospitals and most of them are full to capacity.

However, even with these, the government still allowed tourists to remain coming in to keep the economy growing. Whether this was wise or not, we shall know in a few months. Meanwhile everyone is just looking towards surviving covid at all costs.
