Parliament will facilitate injured Opposition MPs to get further medical treatment out of the country, the Speaker has promised.
On 27th Sept. 2017 the Speaker suspended 25 MP’s including a Minister for disrupting House proceedings. In trying to evict the suspended MP’s, security was called into the House leading to a scuffle in which Member of parliamentss and staff were injured.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, visited the injured MPs and staff early this week. The MPs include Hon Betty Nambooze (DP, Mukono Munic.), Francis Zaake (Ind., Mityana Munic.), Hon. Angellina Osege (FDC, Soroti district); Hon. Gaffa Mbwatekamwa (NRM, Kasambya), and Hon. Lucy Achiro (Ind., Aruu North).
“I have paid a visit to some of the members that were affected by what happened in Parliament. But if there is need, Parliament will facilitate their treatment abroad,” said Kadaga.
During the scuffle Hon. Zaake sustained a head injury, while Hon. Nambooze sustained back injuries. At the time of the visit on Tuesday, Nambooze was still admitted at Bugolobi Medical Centre, in Bugolobi.
