President Museveni is reportedly disturbed by the high number of cases of land grabbing involving officials from the State House and the Office of the President. This was revealed on Friday by Ms Phiona Barungi, the State House Special Assistant on General Duties while meeting land-grabbing victims in Luwero district. Barungi said the president had been lately overwhelmed by complaints about State House officials tormenting scores of people, especially in central Uganda. “There’s just too many complaints about State House employees,” she said. “We have become a big problem, even the president himself, who gave us these jobs is concerned… He does not know what to do.” “He sent us to serve the people but we are now serving our stomachs. It has gotten to a point where almost every state house official is involved in a land wrangle somewhere.” In a meeting held in Zirobwe village in Bukyimu sub-county in Bamunakika, Barungi said her office was being bombarded daily by helpless people. Some of these are facing death threats from powerful people. “Yesterday I had just landed from Turkey, I even was feeling sick. I found a man at the airport waiting for me,” Barungi told the meeting. “He told me that a man connected to Gen Muhoozi Kairerugaba was hunting him to kill him and take his land. When I asked around, it turned out that this man has no connection to Gen Muhoozi. He is just a serial land grabber.” In the meeting, the residents singled out a number of people who have been harassing them. These also went ahead destroying their crop gardens, and metting out all manner of violence to force them out of their land. The Minister of Lands Hon Sam Mayanja during the meeting ordered an immediate arrest of two of these land grabbers. They include Mary Babirye and Rasmus Kagaba. ADF Will Soon Lose Appetite To Attack Uganda – President Museveni

President Museveni has said it is just a matter of time before the ADF rebel group end up in the dustbin of history. The president said this during his new year message on Sunday. He said the Ugandan army, UPDF will not relent on bombing and attacking ADF hideouts.

“We are hitting them so hard. They will soon run out of people to send for bombing,” Museveni said.

The UPDF has in a joint operation code named ‘Shuja’ with the Congolese army of FARDC since December 2021 attacked ADF hideouts inside DRC.

A number of the groups’ fighters and commanders have either been killed in action or captured alive. Several of their camps have also been destroyed.

Due to this heavy bombardment and ground attacks, ADF has on several occasions shifted its bases and extended inside DRC.

However, despite this disruption of their activities, the ADF has continued to cause havoc to Ugandans. This is especially in areas along and near the border with DRC.

President Museveni also said the porous border has enabled remnants of the group to cross to Uganda.

“They are able to do this because the border is unclosable. It is long and has many crossing points, many of them in the bush. Besides, we do not want to close the border, because we shall disrupt the lives of the brother peoples of Congo and Uganda,” Museveni said.

Museveni, however, said that apart from destroying the source by attacking ADF in Congo, the other correct answer is thorough intelligence and internal mobilization.

To this, Museveni said he was happy several commanders of fighters for ADF have in the past few months been killed.

He mentioned Njovu, whose group of 10 carried out the attack and killed two tourists and their Ugandan driver in Queen Elizabeth. Njovu’s replacement named Kamusu has also since been killed by the UPDF.

“Therefore, all our bazukulu, be alert. Let everybody show you his electronic identity card issued by NIRA. Do not accept those printed at Nkrumah Road. Anybody approaching you and wanting you to keep his bag or package, insist that he opens it.”
