FDC In Crisis Mode After Birigwa Declines Meeting With Amuriat

The Forum for Democratic Change ( FDC ) is facing a crisis that has deepened even further. This is after the National Chairman Wasswa Birigwa refused to meet with the party president, Patrick Amuriat.

The meeting had been aimed at harmonizing the forthcoming parallel meetings.

Last week, Amuriat indicated that he would meet the national party chairman yesterday. During the meeting, they would harmonize the National Delegates Conference meetings.

However, insiders at the FDC offices in Najjanankumbi headquarters say Birigwa made no appearance at the meeting. Apparently, he said he did not show up because Amuriat failed to give him specifics on the agenda of the meeting.

Amuriat had to provide a clear agenda of the meeting and indicate his readiness to restore peace and harmony in the party.

When contacted yesterday, Birigwa said he could not come for the meeting when the party still faces turmoil. He said that the camp needs to first organize itself.

John Kigonyongo, the spokesperson of the party said Mr Birigwa revealed that the date collided with his personal affairs. He therefore could not make it to the meeting sue to such reasons of inconvenience.

The crisis in the party worsened last week after two competing national delegates conferences came up.

One of the meetings is called by Mr. Birigwa and the other by the Chairperson of the party’s electoral commission.

In an August 18th notice, Mr Birigwa called for an extraordinary National Delegates Conference. It is scheduled for September 19 according to a letter seen by reporters.
