Former Security Guard Arrested For Stealing Gun From Colleagues

The Police in Kampala Metropolitan South and Kajjansi Police Station have arrested a former security guard over the theft of a gun. The man, identified as Okello Ben, a former private security guard stole an SAR gun from two colleagues. He then used it to terrorize residents in the area.

The alleged incident occurred last month on July 28, at around 8:30 pm. Okello stole the gun from two private guards of TIME COP Security.

They were at their guard point at Go Cult Sports Recreation Centre Neziba Cell, Seguku Parish, Ndejje division in Makindye Ssabagabo.

According to Police Spokesperson SCP Fred Enanga, Okello was three days later arrested from Chogam trading centre. He had concealed the gun in the Kanzu he was wearing.

“After 3 days, on 31/07/2023, at around 9 pm, the suspect was arrested from Chogam trading centre. The gun which he had concealed in the Kanzu, he was wearing, was recovered. In this very respect, he went to GO CULT sports recreation centre and tricked one of the guards, Ogwal Sam, with Ugx 1500, to go and buy chapatis. He used his absence to attack and hit Lugwe Okeng, with a stone to the head and robbed his gun,” Enanga explained.

Further investigations into the case revealed that the same suspect has a previous record of gun theft. This occurred on May 13, from a private security guard at Forest Resort Hotel in Lwezza.

Enanga says for this incident, the gun was recovered on May 17, 2023, near the office of TIME COP Security Company in Lubowa. The suspect was charged in court with stealing a firearm but was released.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on two counts. That is of stealing a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm, and attempted murder.

He warned the public that illegal possession of firearms by notorious criminals poses a major threat to the community.
