Former Uganda Cranes Player David Obua Set To Be Named Lugazi United New Coach

According to credible reports, former Uganda Cranes midfielder, David Obua will be named Lugazi FC’s next head coach on a one-year deal. Since leaving URA FC in April of this year, the former Cranes forward has been without a job.

Sadick Sempigi, the former manager was fired by the team last week after club’s first season in the Premier League got off to a bad start.

He will be replaced by Obua, who holds a UEFA A diploma. Oliver Mbekeka was appointed as the club’s interim coach after Sempigi was fired.

Obua managed Lango Province in the 2022 FUFA Drum and served as George Nsimbe’s assistant coach at Maroons FC.

Under the floodlights of Nakivubo, Lugazi FC will play seven-time Uganda Premier League winners Express FC on Tuesday.

This is in an attempt to record their first victory in the top division. They have only managed two points this term, two draws, and three losses in their five games played. This puts them at the bottom of the table.

On July 15th, the club announced through their social media channels the appointment of former Crested Cranes player Oliver Mbekeka as the assistant coach.

Mbekeka, known for her wealth of experience and passion for the game, worked alongside then head coach Sadick Ssempigi. Mbekeka’s past coaching experience included the Uganda U-20 women’s national team and Lady Doves.

Lugazi’s efforts to build a strong squad are evident in their recent signings. The latest addition is David Obua from URA FC.

Obua also joins a team of new players including Emmanuel Obua, Nelson Mandela, Dennis Lubowa, Sharif Saaka, Wasswa Paul, and Adriko Rogers.
