Muhammed Ssegirinya;- I Do Not Want To Be Like Marie Antoinette

I Do Not Want To Be Like Marie Antoinette -Muhammed Ssegirinya

Yesterday rounded off the swearing-in ceremony for the MP’s and it had one of the most comical figures, Muhammed Ssegirinya take oath. Ssegurinya is now the official MP of Kawempe North but it has been a rough road for him to get into the 11th parliament.

Right from the party nominations where he was battling it out with Sulaiman Kidandala to the elections where incumbent Latif Ssebagala made a u-turn and came back for the same position after opting out for the Kampala lord mayoral seat.

Ssegirinya was able to defeat all his opponents with a resounding victory. However, comfort and joy were far from his reach. The police later arrested and took him to Kitalya government prison for what police call illegal demonstration in Kampala.

While still in the mix of all that, his opponent Sulaiman Kidandala rushed to court and petitioned it to cancel out Ssegirinya’s victory. He owed this to Ssegirinya’s fake academic papers and Mr Updates really did sweat over this matter.

Court later released him his health deteriorated. They then flew him out of the country for proper health care. Things seemed worse as the always cheerful former lord councillor looked frail.

However, he miraculously returned for the swearing-in yesterday where he took his oath and promised his people several things.

He promised to avail shs100,000 to each and every family in Kawempe North to support their livelihood through his initiative. This venture he calls Segi-box is an idea he had months back before his election. He feels it’s the right time to implement it.

“I have a system in Kawempe called Segi box and I will give each and every family Shs100, 000. I won’t buy the car, I will use my car,” Hon Ssegirinya said.

The NUP official who had idealised to run for parliament speakership role also said he won’t buy the official government car. He says this is a sign of extravagance which he does not want to be associated with. His history classes were not put to waste, he likened buying a hundred million shilling car to the French revolution.

“If you can recall the French revolution about Marie Antoinette, they were busy buying expensive cars when their people are suffering. I don’t want to be like that,” he noted.

We shall wait to see if he implements his words or he was just excited like most politicians.
