Kyagulanyi to Police; Concentrate On Providing Security Rather Than Oppressing Political Opponents

National Unity Platform president, Robert Kyagulanyi has told police to concentrate on providing security rather than oppressing political opponents. He said this shortly after the attempted murder of Gen. Katumba Wamala.

“We all noticed that the security forces of Uganda instead of providing security for the people and their property, have concentrated on oppressing political opponents and abducting and torturing innocent citizens. This in a way has opened up for insecurity not only for the citizens but for everybody,” he said.

Kyagulanyi continues to say these assailants are professional killers. According to him, they are highly trained and skilled for the job.

“These are professional killers. These could probably be very highly trained murderers. This has not just begun happening, it has been happening for a long while and you and I know that not a single report has been released on the murder of high-ranking citizens of Uganda.”

Meanwhile, Kyagulanyi prayed for the General to recover quickly from the wounds plus his daughter’s and drivers’ death.

“It is absurd and it is a terrible time in Uganda. It is frightening but we pray that God will continue to strengthen the family of Gen Katumba Wamala and we are thankful to God that his life has been spared, we pray for his quick recovery,” he said.

Tuesday morning started with mourning for Gen. Katumba’s household. This was after unknown assailants shot at his car apparently 56 times. These shots left Brenda Nantongo, Katumba’s daughter plus his driver dead on spot. Though Gen. Katumba survived, he escaped with injuries but he is recovering.
