Miria Matembe:- “Uganda Does Not Have National Army”

Former Ethics amd Integrity minister now turned government critic, Hon Miria Matembe, has said that Uganda doesn’t have a national army. According to Matembe, the UPDF is a personal army.

She added that once a country lacks democracy, there is no way an army can be termed national. This is because in such scenarios, the army always has its side. And in Uganda currently, it’s hard to tell who is an army or police officer.

“I am not here to glorify the UPDF because what I know personally is that the UPDF is not a national army. It is a personal army. Whether these people see it or not, I don’t care, said Miria Matembe while appearing on the NBS Frontline program.

Her submission was supported by Kiira Municipality MP Hon Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.

The MP said that the army is currently being run like a kiosk.

He questioned whether the three army Generals from the Kaguta family are the most deserving. Hon Ssemujju pointed out that these have become bigger than the army.

“The army is currently run like a kiosk. I want someone to educate me that the three Generals in the Kaguta family are the most deserving to be Generals. The family has become bigger than the army.”

The vocal MP wondered how a person like Museveni continues to receive medals even when he retired from the army.

Ssemujju Nganda further pointed out how unprofessional the army is. This is because Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has been left to roam around freely despite his actions.

This is yet such propaganda considered harmful is the same that saw Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde jailed for for 4 years.
