NUP MP Under Fire For Giving Calendar To A Blind Woman

An NUP MP for Kalungu West, Hon Ssewungu Joseph Gonzaga has come under fire on social media for giving a calendar to a blind woman. The MP posted a video of himself gifting a 2024 People Power calendar with Bobi Wine’s photo to this elderly woman.

According to the MP, the joy from this lady after receiving the calendar was immeasurable. He then wished her more healthy years ahead. Additionally, he said that she’s a strong Bobi Wine supporter.

“The joy of this blind old woman can’t be measured after receiving a 2024 calendar from me. May she blow more candles.”

From here, social media users started raining in all kinds of opinions. They wondered how one could gift a calendar to a blind woman. Comedian Patrick Salvado jostled in and questioned the motive of this. He said what the MP did was like giving a whistle to a deaf person.

“I’m confused … it’s like giving a deaf person a whistle .. but what do I know .. Well done Hon Joseph, the intention is what matters.”

Whereas more criticized the MP, he also didn’t back down as he said that what he did was just symbolic. In his defense, the MP said that this was a message that if such an elderly woman can vote and love Bobi Wine, why not the youth?

Furthermore, he said that social media users were taking it a bit far. This is because the lady also has family members to help her read this calendar.
