Opposition To Select Their Candidate For Speakership On Thursday

The opposition at Parliament has said they are going to select the person who will represent them in the speakership race on Thursday. As of now, Joel Senyonyi says they have not made any endorsements.

Sources though say, there are two NUP members who have shown interest in this position. NRM on the other hand has already endorsed their candidate, Deputy Speaker Anita Among.

The competition will get tenser as the days draw near because many people want the position. The MPs from the Northern region are still enraged saying they had to keep this position.

Since Oulanyah was from the North, perhaps they thought it would be obvious that the NRM CEC would endorse Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth. To the dismay of many, it seems the region was not part of the qualifications for this position.

Last year, opposition fronted Semujju Nganda who unfortunately lost in a very devastating manner. Out of the 100 plus opposition members, Semujju got only 15 votes.

The question is why did it happen that way? What are they going to do b to get all of them to vote for the endorsed candidate? Otherwise, if all these questions are not looked into, we could have another event like in May 2021

Meanwhile, the parliament is to vote for Speaker on Friday. This is so as they bury the fallen speaker Oulanyah as he should according to the constitution.
