PM Nabbanja Launches Regional Defense Forces Week Activities

PM Robinah Nabbanja has asked Ugandans to retrace their history and acknowledge the contributions of their brothers and sisters in the army to the success of the liberation struggle.

The Prime Minister made this remark while she launched the 41st UPDF Tarehe Sita Anniversary Civil-Military activities.

She said it is important to know where we have come from, where we currently are. And where we are going, to have a modern Uganda.

She also noted that it has been a deliberate effort by UPDF to secure the lives and property of the people premised on their earlier contributions to the struggle.

Nabbanja emphasized that outreach efforts of supporting communities demonstrate that UPDF is truly a peoples’ army.

She thanked the UPDF for the discipline, sacrifice, and hard work that has led to the total pacification of the country. She further thanked them for exporting peace to other countries like Somalia and South Sudan.

‘’Our Pan-African spirit has made us move beyond borders and neutralized wrong elements in Somalia and South Sudan,’’ she remarked.

The Prime Minister, however, urged residents in Bugisu and Sebei Sub-regions to embrace intensive agriculture. She advised them to adopt the Parish Development Model to improve their quality of life.

She planted a tree at the high altitude training stadium in Teyret, out of the 5000 trees donated by Million Trees International Organization.

Hon. Jacob Markson Oboth, Minister of State in charge of General Duties, assured the locals that UPDF is committed to securing Uganda. He, therefore, urged them to protect the achievements of the government.

The Deputy Chief of Defense Forces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, noted that UPDF supports communities through minor civil and health works.

This is to remind them of the togetherness that led to the restoration of peace and security.

‘’We are here to serve you with peace and security. Peace is everything, without peace we can’t be here. Without your support, we can’t have peace for the prosperity of everyone,’’ Gen Elwelu said.

The Minister for Karamoja Affairs Mary Goretti Kimono Kitutu, and other Members of Parliament also attended the event.

The UPDF will construct and renovate some schools and hospitals. They will also offer Free Safe Male Circumcision and free HIV/AIDS Counseling, among other things.
