Police Bans Use Of Sirens On Private Vehicles With Immediate Effect

The Police have banned the use of sirens on all private vehicles. This was announced by Lawrence Nuwabiine, the head of traffic police. This ban also includes cars owned by private security companies. He announced this morning at a joint press conference for all police directors at Naguru.

“As of now, am ordering all private vehicles including private security organizations that have sirens to immediately disable those sirens.
I appeal to you; don’t drive in town with those sirens because we are going to arrest you,” Nuwabiine said.

This is a very good step if put in place because almost every private car wants to have a siren. Not only does it cause noise pollution but also congestion on the roads. As a result, traffic is always horrible especially during morning hours and evening hours.

Meanwhile, he also talked about drunk driving during the day which is on the rise. He said there are a number of accidents that have happened due to drunk drivers during day time.

” We are getting reports that people are drinking and driving during the day. They go and drink at friend’s homes and they are causing accidents on our roads. These accidents are not happening during night time because of the curfew” Lawrence said.

“Very Soon we shall mount sobriety checkpoints on undisclosed roads and we shall get them,” he added.

Since the closure of bars and other hangouts, people have resorted to drinking from homes.unfortunately, most of them drive while drunk. Checkpoints indeed are needed to have this vice checked and stopped as soon as possible.
