Rodrigo Hernandez Talks About Ballon d’Or For First Time Since Winning

Manchester City and Spanish midfielder Rodrigo Hernandez has talked about the Ballon d’Or award for the first time since he won it last month. The 28-year-old was named the best footballer on the planet for the 2023-24 season.

This was ahead of the likes of Vinicius Jr., Jude Bellingham, Dani Carvajal amongst others.

The results however were so controversial as everyone thought that Real Madrid’s Vini would be crowned the winner. As a result, Real Madrid’s entourage wasn’t present at this ceremony despite the Brazilian coming in second.

A lot of smoke was raised with even fellow footballers joining in to question how the 2024 Euros winner won the award ahead of Vini.

Real Madrid in fact argued that their captain, Dani Carvajal should have won the award going by the criteria that Rodrigo Hernandez won it ahead of Vini. Now the midfielder has revealed that if he has the ability to vote, he would have put himself first, Carvajal in second and Vini in third.

“I’d vote Dani Carvajal 2nd at the Ballon d’Or… and Vinicius Jr as 3rd,” Rodri said.

Meanwhile, the holding midfielder who is currently sidelined with an ankle injury said that he feels he could return before the season ends. He suffered an ACL injury in Manchester City’s game against Arsenal. They ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

“I feel I can return already THIS season, yes. It’s possible and I can make it happen. I’m recovering now, no pressure… it’s important to recover in the best way. But the season is long, there’s the new Clubs’ World Cup… I can do it.”
