Ugandans Should Start Coming With Employment Contract To UAE – Ambassador Zaake Kibedi

Ambassador Of Uganda To UAE, Zaake Kibedi, has said Ugandans should start travelling with employment contracts to UAE.

Most of the people apparently travel with tourist visas but then end up staying as workers which also puts them in harm’s way.

“Let all Ugandans coming to work in UAE come on employment, not tourist visas. The labour laws in UAE are very strict and protective of the workers. What is going to solve the problem is to leave Uganda with an employment contract. Half of the people in planes from Uganda to the UAE are coming to work, but some come without contracts and others with unlicensed companies.”

However, Zaake Kibedi says the issue of people of different nationalities being stranded in UAE is not new. He says this usually happens when a person over stays in such countries.

However, the reason why it has started attracting attention now is that the UAE government offered an amnesty period to people, and those that had passports were repatriated.

“We had to offer emergency travel documents for those without passports. When you are working legally in UAE, the law protects you.”

There have been a number of stories in the news showing how Ugandans in these Arab countries are being mistreated. However, government can’t do much because most of the people travelled illegally.
