Why Should A Woman Seek A Man’s Approval To Go Out – Doreen Nyanjura

Kampala City deputy Lord mayor Doreen Nyanjura has revealed that she wonders why a woman needs a man’s permission to go out. Apparently, the mother of one has always expressed views controversial to the traditional way of life especially after marriage.

This time round she asked why a woman needs permission from her husband to go out with friends, attend parties or family events.

She went ahead to say that some men deny their wives the necessary permission just to show off their manhood.

“In this day and age, why should men be treating their wives like children. That a man’s permission must be sought for a woman to attend a friend’s party or a family event. A man to prove his manhood reserves the right to block the wife from attending such events with no explanation offered!! Denies the wife permission to simply prove that he is the man,” she said.

Additionally, the politician said that she can’t get into such a marriage. This is because she should be a partner in a relationship. And should as well have an equal say in everything.

If it’s about movement, she believes she should inform her partner but not seek his permission. Once she’s done telling him, he should even accompany her if he can and if he can’t, at least offer some facilitation.

However, her remarks met a some dissenting opinions. Some of these told her that she can’t talk about marriage when she’s single.

Besides Doreen is not known to be in any relationship publicly but has an eleven year old daughter. She’s, a renowned feminist.
