15 Year Old Killed By Metallic Stick Grenade In Kapelebyong District

Residents in Kapelebyong District are investigating circumstances under which a 15-year-old boy, Ben Akol died. Reports say a stick grenade exploded while the boy played with it, instantly killing him.

The incident occurred on Sunday 14 at around 10 am in Ojakai village, Angerepo parish in Kapelebyong district.

According to the East Kyoga police public relations officer, David Mudong Ongom, three children including Akol left home to go play. Their parents had also gone gardening around that same time. The three children came across the stick grenade which they started playing with. A little later, it exploded killing the victim on the spot.

Ongom said the police later visited the scene of the accident and collected fragments of the grenade. They also took statements from eyewitnesses.

They then urged the citizens to report suspicious metallic objects since Kapelebyong happened to be a war zone sometime in the past.
