Lawyer Robert Rutaro revealed this to Entebbe Chief Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Grade One Magistrate Stella Okwong. He additionally informed the court that they had wrapped up investigations into the matter hence wanting the hearing to start.
“Investigations into the matter have been concluded and the witnesses are ready to testify,” Rutaro said.
However, after a request from the defendant’s lawyer, the hearing did not start since the magistrate adjourned it.
Currently, the pastor and Makula are out on bail. They are fighting against charges of involvement in a void marriage (bigamy).
Makula is also facing another case of knowingly marrying a married man, contrary to Section 42 of the Marriage Act Cap 251. Bigamy is an ant of marrying someone new when still legally married to someone else.
The prosecution alleges that on December 7, 2021, Makula went through a marriage ceremony with Bugingo. This happened yet she knew Bugingo had another legal marriage still intact.
On December 22, last year, the court charged Bugingo, the lead pastor of House of Prayer Ministries International, and Makula with three counts related to avoid marriage, contrary to the Marriage Act.
Public litigants Male Mabirizi and Robert Rutaro Muhairwe then dragged Bugingo and Makula to court. Court has adjourned the hearing of the case to June 20.
