Ability To Rig Shows NRM Is Strong – Ofwono Opondo On Allegations That NRM Steals Votes

The government spokesman, Ofwono Opondo has revealed that the ability of his party, NRM to rig elections shows that the party is strong and this is a good thing.

This followed a remark by the secretary general of the NUP David Lewis Rubongoya that his party has been able to do a lot in a shorter period than the ruling party.

According to Rubongoya, NUP can account for every penny it has so far received from the Electoral Commission and it’s Parliamentary wing.

This is unlike the NRM which uses its money for unlawful activities. He added that NUP receives just 12 percent of these resources whereas the NRM gets about 75 percent of the budget.

However, Ofwono said that what his party uses the money for is visible. And a lot of it has gone towards mobilization. This partly explains why the party is very strong across the nation.

“What the @NRMOnline is using the money it receives for is visible. Over the years, that money has been used for mobilization. That says a lot about its strength. Even the ability to rig is good. If you are weak and try to rig, you won’t succeed,” he said.

Rubongoya, however, said that he doubts the NRM can account for its funds. Meanwhile, Ofwono said that the fact that the NRM has the biggest numbers in Parliament, district leadership and the Local councils tells a lot about their strength and how well they have put their funds to good use.
