The categories of people to receive the vaccine include frontline workers such as teachers, health workers, students, among other categories. The president said this will lay a solid ground for the reopening of the country’s economy by January 2021.
The covid-19 pandemic has had a disruptive impact on a number of sectors in the country. One of those sectors is teaching and learning as schools have remained closed for most of the past eight months.
Schools and other learning institutions were first closed in March 2020 when the country registered its first covid-19 cases.
Although many partly opened in October 2020, the second wave of infections forced the government to close schools again. This happened in May 2021 and to date.
All in all, the government has set itself a target of vaccinating at least half of the country’s 46 million people.
In other news, President Museveni revealed that he will reopen schools and the rest of the economy in January 2022.
He said this will only be realized after a number of people are vaccinated. Therefore he urged Ugandans to flock the nearest health centres for vaccination.
