She warned that the high number of people who interact there on a daily basis is very high.
The newly sworn-in Woman MP of Lira city urged the new MPs to take the SOPs seriously in order to avoid the spread of the virus.
This was during the induction of new MPs on the rules and procedures of parliament. Despite the Ministry of health limiting social gatherings to 200 people, more than 500 MPs have been gathering for this study. Although they observe social distancing some have even gone ahead to interact freely with no masks.
“We can’t stop the house from sitting but what you must know is that the second wave is usually worse than the first. Many people will succumb in this wave and the third wave will inevitably be worse than the second,” Acheng addressed her fellow parliamentarians.
She also went ahead to explain why some districts are not recording covid 19 cases.
“Why are they not sending samples? Because they are not motivated to do so. They are fatigued, they have lost interest. We have not provided money for quite a while. But you don’t need to have money to save lives,” she added.
The second wave of covid-19 is notably spreading so fast especially in the central and northern districts.
