Angry Mob Kills Man Suspected Of Murder

The Rukiga district police are investigating circumstances under which an angry mob murdered two people. The victim, as well as his killer are the ones whose murders are under investigation.

ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson identified the first victim as Silver Rubanda. Silver was a 61-year-old resident of Rwabatunga cell Noozi parish, Rwamucucu sub-county.

Rubanda is said to have left his home on Tuesday morning and headed on a drinking spree till 11 pm when he started his journey home. This time, some people heard Rubanda making an alarm and his wife said he never made it home.

On Wednesday morning, Maate added that passersby discovered Rubanda’s body laying lifeless a few meters from his home. He also had a rope tied around his neck with which the killer strangled him.

It should be noted that residents suspected 24-year-old Aloysius Byamukama of committing the unspeakable act.

This is because the two have been embroiled in a dispute. The dispute had been pending judgment on the fateful day hence the suspicions from other residents.

After discovering the body, the residents hunted Byamukama down and badly assaulted him. The police eventually rescued him from his punishers and rushed him to Mbaro Health Center IV. He, unfortunately, passed away a few hours after arriving at the Health Center.

A case of strangling and murder by the angry mob were registered at Rukiga Central Police station under reference numbers CRB 167 &168/2023 respectively.
