The sitting was pushed to 24th August 2021. This continued absence of ministers has caused a lot of delay in Parliament business and affected decision making greatly.
There were claims from some legislators that also pushed Anita Among to adjourn the meeting. Apparently, ministers instead of attending Parliament sittings, a majority are seen loitering in the corridors of Parliament.
Some are reportedly in canteens having tea and eats all the time. Many legislators welcomed the decision to adjourn the meeting.
Ministers are answer providers in Parliament. Most times parliament never solves issues when the minister in charge is not in the house.
For example, there was a security problem but none of the people in charge were there to answer. This means everything discussed never reaches a conclusive decision.
However the government Chief Whip, Thomas Tayebwa didn’t agree with his colleagues. He says it’s not true that Ministers are always in corridors and in canteens taking tea.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time such issues are coming up. All previous parliaments have been facing these issues. Not just for the ministers but also all legislators at large.
Perhaps they should take a more substantial disciplinary measure to curb this act otherwise they will delay parliament business.
