Anita Among, the speaker of Parliament has tasked the finance ministry to table a national budget framework paper before the parliament. She said this should be done by 15th December before MPs break off for their Christmas holidays.
According to Among, this will enable the MPs to study the budget in time. It will also allow the shadow minister for finance to make her response.
She says that availing the budget on the last days as MPs go for holidays has made the finance ministry extract wrong figures.
“The timely tabling of this document will give us time to study it early. The Shadow Minister for Finance will give a response to what has been presented so that we refer it to the committee early enough,” she said.
She revealed that this is always costly for the institution and on the side of the ministry. Among further warned that they will not receive the budget in the final day like it happened with the last budget.
“You find a tendency by the Finance Ministry of extracting wrong figures and sending them to institutions, different from what Parliament has appropriated,” the Speaker said.
She added that they needed to study the budget for at least a week. This is before approving it and that they wouldn’t rubber stamp anything.
State Minister for Privatization, Hon. Evelyn Anite committed to table the Budget Framework Paper in time.
