He said 11 people died on the spot. Four others died at Matapara hospital where they had been taken for medical care.
The deceased are yet to be identified according to Mr. Okema. A number of other injured passengers are in critical condition at the hospital.
In an early morning statement today by Okema, he says the accident involved a bus belonging to Robin bus company. The bus, registration number UAT 259P had been on its way to Gulu from Kampala at the time of the accident.
Apparently, the driver of the bus failed to dodge a parked trailer. He eventually rammed into killing 11 people instantly. This happened at around midnight at Adebi trading center, just about a kilometer to a checkpoint in Kamdini.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Anyeke Health Center for pending postmortem and identification as well if possible.
The police are yet to determine the actual cause of the fatal accident. However, preliminary findings indicate that the trailer driver had parked in the wrong spot without any warning signs.
Since November 2022, road accidents have become a bit more frequent due to the many people traveling to and from villages.
Earlier on, traffic police revealed that up to 35 people died and 114 people were injured from 28 crashes in just three days.
