He said they are willing to continue despite the disagreement over the Anti-Homosexuality bill which parliament recently approved.
Earlier this week, the Europe Day celebrations took place in Kampala. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Sadek said the continuous discussion over the matter shows that there is still patriotism in the hearts of Ugandans.
“The EU takes a great interest in Uganda. The EU wants to build a strong partnership with Uganda, on the political side, on cooperation, and on trade and investment, working with all segments in Ugandan society. We have a continuous and broad-based dialogue with the government, and we share the same views in many areas,” he said.
He further said that as friends and partners, if an issue arises, they speak out if they have different views.
“There is no secret that we disagree about the new Anti-Homosexuality Bill, which contradicts universal values and threatens the safety and dignity of a group of citizens. We believe it is important to be an,e to have frank exchange also about such matters,” he added.
These comments have come at a time when the country is in fear of being cut off international aid.
Various international bodies and development partners have threatened to withhold much needed aid because of the bill.
One of the leading development partners of Uganda is the bloc and its its member states. It is investing millions of Euros into pertinent sectors like energy, trade as well as infrastructure among others.
The EU has since met with President Museveni to discuss the passing of this bill.
