The deceased security guard and his colleague were guarding at Stabex filling station near Mailo Mbili in Jinja city.
It is located along the Jinja-Iganga highway. Apparently, the security guards were overpowered by the unidentified armed robbers.
Nearby residents, when questioned, said they heard several gunfire shots in the night but feared for their safety and stayed indoors. It is only in the morning when they found out that armed robbers had attacked a filling station.
One of the residents said this is the second time hearing gunshots in their area. The resident added that petty thieves disturb the areas a lot.
To confirm the incident, the Kiira region Police Spokesperson, James Mubi, also said the incident happened at 2:00 am in the night.
He noted that the two guards are James Peter Okoboi and Isaac Olupot who were attached to Security Group Africa
‘’We found Okoboi and Olupot in a pool of blood at the filling station after being overpowered and injured by robbers. We rushed them to Jinja regional referral hospital but unfortunately, Okoboi succumbed to gun wounds. His colleague Olupot is responding to treatment at the referral hospital,’’ Mubi said.
He also said the police recovered ten cartridges at the scene and two guns. The thugs apparently stole these guns from the guards. The two guns included a pump-action and a she gun.
