The unfortunate event took place on Monday 26th, at around 12:00 pm at Grina Gardens Hotel in Koboko district.
Three men reportedly drowned in the shallow well as they tried to pump water into the water tank using a generator.
“The first to die while attempting to pump water to the tank was Edward Zamali aged 38 years old, self employed, resident of Olengaku village in Koboko district, while the other two identified as Bosco Candia and Robert Dramali who is a watchman died while attempting to rescue their colleague,” Josephine Angucia, the regional police spokesperson said.
She further revealed that the police caught wind of the incident from the hotel’s chef. This prompted a team of police officers to rush to the scene and control the situation before the public intervened.
The bodies were pulled out of the well and taken to Koboko government hospital for postmortem.
After an investigation, police established that the artificial water well happened to be deeper than they thought.
They also said it had water clogged steps which could have been the reason why Edward Zamari slid into the well followed by his two rescuers.
Angucia advised owners of such water wells to be careful with them in order to prevent such deadly accidents.
