The grandfather of the baby speaking to The Nation said they were held for over 40 minutes.
“We were held for more than 40 minutes at the roadblock despite having a referral letter from Gucha hospital. Police insisted that we had defied the guidelines issued by the president,”
He laments that if they had let them go, the baby would still perhaps be alive.
“If it were not for that roadblock, the life of my granddaughter could have been saved,”
By the time, they reached the hospital, the baby had already died.
“Doctors told us that the child had already died,” the grandfather said.
The police has started investigating this matter already. They however say, the family was held in curfew for only 15 minutes despite the family insisting it was 40 minutes. The taxi had the mother of the baby, father and grandfather.
People have criticized the police for this act but it seems it’s falling on deaf ears. Even now, the police insist on implementing curfew rules no matter what. Kenya’ s curfew is between 22:00pm-4:00am. Their covid cases are now at 161,000 with over 2,700 deaths.
