During the Covid-19 lockdown, people in the entertainment industry asked government for help. Some of the promoters got an opportunity to ask for what can help them and they asked for money.
Unfortunately, the money they got was for their personal use, it didn’t help the whole entertainment industry.
According to Balaam, government should always look at what helps the whole entertainment industry not just individuals.
He said artists have been complaining about the copyright law and that should be the focus of government at the moment.
The events promoter also talked about his department saying they have been over-taxing them and that has affected them and the whole music industry.
“We want the government to invest in the industry and in a structured way. We have seen artists complain and beg for the implementation of the copyright law. And us the events promoters, we also have talked about the increased taxes. That should be the government’s focus at the moment,” he said.
The controversial events promoter is a known government supporter and has been working closely with Gen. Muhoozi kainerugaba.
