In Uganda, people always find a way of selling and buying illegal drugs on the streets. They are obviously very expensive but that doesn’t stop anyone from getting them.
Some celebrities have struggled with drugs and have consequently lost their careers in the process. This is because they use all the money they have to buy drugs instead of investing in their careers.
According to Balaam, some celebrities look up to their fellows. They always want to be like the person who inspire them but forget that those big celebrities have a lot of money.
Pushing themselves to be like their idols make them end up poor and into drugs. This is usually because they are stressed and depressed.
“Some musicians and comedians have resorted to drug abuse due to poverty. In such cases, they compare themselves to others who have more than they do, leading to feelings of inadequacy,” Balaam said.
A number of artists have lost their careers and others even lost their lives to drugs. However, only a few have accepted the situation and embraced rehab.
It should be noted that the Uganda National Musicians Federation has created a rehabilitation center to help celebrities struggling with drugs. Some are too shy to go there but those who seek help are actually helped.
