A list that showed the huge amount of money government planned to give a number of musicians. This left Ugandans stunned on how government was planning to carelessly dish out taxpayers money.
This list was in excess of 9.4B shillings and musicians such as Chameleone and Pallaso were to earn over 800M shillings.
Bebe Cool who was apparently going to get over 600M trashed the list saying it was made up.
The Katono singer said that it was made by someone who wanted these musicians to be at the receiving end of public criticism.
“We had actually gone to Gulu to learn how to revolutionize the music industry and not for financial handouts. And besides, we are entitled to that money because we contribute 3% to the country’s GDP. That list was fake and made by someone who wanted us to face public backlash.” Bebe Cool said.
He faulted social media for always being the base of where fake news circulates from. The singer also said that the music industry has been affected a lot by the pandemic just like other sectors.
However, whereas government was giving these sectors financial relief, it didn’t do the same for the music industry.
This is because they are not organised and have no organizations through which the government can plug in to help them.
It was therefore important for them as musicians to unite and form associations through which they can access government help.
