According to Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Matte, the four time presidential candidate was arrested at Rwakaraba and will be charged with murder.

“He will be charged for leading to  death of one person in Rukungiri town, inciting violence and injuring Police officer who was  on duty,”Matte said.

Kigezi Regional Police Commander Denis Namuwoza noted that Besigye had been arrested over the chaos in Rukungiri on Wednesday.

“It is true he has been arrested and will be charged over  Rukungiri issues,”Namuwoza said.
One person was killed and others injured on Wednesday at Rukungiri stadium as police tried to block an FDC rally that Dr.Besigye was supposed to attend.

Chaos erupted when police blocked Besigye from going to the rally prompting  crowds to hurl stones at police officers who in turn fired live bullets and teargas to disperse them.

However according to Namuwoza, the deceased was hit by a stone and not a bullet as had been claimed.

He said the size of the wound on the head showed that he had been killed by a stone.

Kigezi region police spokesperson Elly Matte also told this website that the unidentified person had one opening on the head, indicating that it was a stone that hit him.

“If it was a bullet, it would be two sides, so he was hit by a stone,” Matte said.
