The Fashion designer Abyanz has narrated how he started with humble steps with a dream of what he’s living today.
Abryanz briefly narrated his story:
This journey started in 2010, I was still at campus hustling to survive. My solace was a job as a cleaner at Huawei. I had always loved fashion, so this was a huge opportunity for me to meet new people and share my passion with them. I started by selling to my workmates clothes I had picked around. I would collect all the nice clothes and shoes I came by and keep them in my backpack. Once I chanced upon a potential client, my stock was right on my back.
It is from this that I opened up a small boutique at Prime Complex after saving up enough money. The business has grown through leaps and bounds to become the Abryanz brand we all respect.
Last Saturday I was honored to receive the Young Achievers award for Best in Creative Arts (fashion) category. For someone that started as a fashion collector to a boutique proprietor, this is by far one of the biggest milestones in my life. It has always been my dream to step on that stage to receive an award of that stature. Thank you Young Achievers award for recognizing my hustle. I’m sure many young people were inspired.
In my speech at the gala, I dedicated the award to all people in the fashion industry working hard and using every single day of their lives to perfect their craft. Fashion in Uganda has come such a long way; it’s such a blessing that we are finally gaining space and attention.
Our theme for the Asfas this year is ‘Fashion Takeover’. We are celebrating people like me who are looking at fashion not only from a creative point of view, but also as a business. Let no one tell you it is impossible, if they do, tell them, “If Brian did, I too can!”
The Asfas are African fashion and design awards held annually in Uganda specifically to honor the biggest fashionistas in Africa.
“Come Let’s Celebrate Fashion,” he said…
These awards were first awarded in 2013 and Brian worked together with MTN Uganda who organised the event at MTN arena in Lugogo before shifting to Kampala Serena Hotel.
