Widespread protests broke out in the South American country’s capital Caracas and other parts of the country.
Many people are on the streets protesting the victory of the incumbent Nicolas Maduro Moros. It should be noted that Maduro was declared the winner of the election held last week.
He won with 51% of the vote while his closest rival, Edmundo Gonzalez had 44% according to the Electoral Commission.
However, the Opposition claims that Gonzalez won the election with a percentage of 67% compared to the 31% of Maduro. This is from the 80 percent of the Polling stations the Opposition claims to have collected data from.
Apparently, 16 people have died so far amidst these protests. The people are demanding for the Electoral Commission to publish the voting results.
Meanwhile, Maduro, who will be ruling for a third straight term, accused María Corina Machado who is the Opposition leader and Edmundo Gonzalez of criminal violence.
Maduro is now being called upon by different world leaders to prove that he won the election. Many have branded his win a sham and undemocratic.
Uganda’s Bobi Wine took to X and shared a video of Venezuelans protesting in huge numbers and wrote, “Hello Uganda, do you copy?”
It should be noted that the NUP leader claims to have won the 2021 Presidential election but his victory was apparently robbed in the same Venezuelan way. Despite there being a few protests in the aftermath of the election, the situation was let go of.
Now as the 2026 general elections are near, the NUP leader will want his supporters to be ready to go the Venezuelan way in case their victory is allegedly robbed.
