Born Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu in Gomba at Nkozi Hospital, the singer later traveled to Kampala and grew up in the slums of Kamwokya. He attended Kitante Hill School, Kololo SS and Makerere University for his education.
Bobi Wine joined the music scene in the early 2000’s with his breakthrough hit Akagoma. He later teamed up with his now eternal nemesis Bebe Cool and formed the Firebase crew to musically depose a common enemy then, Jose Chameleone.
The Bada singer molded his music on Jamaican music icon Bounty Killer. His music is characterized as reggae, dancehall and Afro beats.
Bobi Wine has always had a political aura in his music and it was evident that at one point he would join politics.
Even when his fellow artists identified with the government, he was always on the opposing side and sang a number of songs hitting out at the system.
In 2017, Bobi Wine participated in the parliamentary by-election in Kyadondo East that he won with a landslide victory.
This ushered him into politics officially and formed his own political party, NUP. He went ahead to participate in the recent presidential election which he ‘controversially’ lost to the incumbent, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The singer has now evolved into Uganda’s biggest opposition politician. He’s popular both on the local and international scene.
The Firebase Crew president is married to Barbra Itungo Kyagulanyi and they share four children together.
However, City lawyer, Male Mabirizi brought Kyagulanyi’s age into question last year. He alleged that Bobi is two years older than his official documents. The NUP principle came out to clarify on the issue and the court threw out the case.
