Bobi Wine's Documentary Movie Scoops International Award

Bobi Wine, a musician-turned-politician in 2017 took it upon himself to challenge one of Africa’s longest-ruling presidents, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni aged 78.

To challenge president Museveni, Bobi had to inherit all the pressure and trouble his predecessor faced.

During the campaigns, Bobi Wine supporters were brutalized and others killed in a state-sanctioned campaign.

His arrest in Luuka district in Eastern Uganda, dragged the nation into 2 days of bloodshed between November 18-19, 2020. This is according to a documentary titled ‘Three Killings in Kampala” after a BBC investigation.

By the time the violence ended, dozens had been deliberately killed by security forces. The government placed the toll at 54 despite Bobi placing the toll at over 100.

It is sad that since that time, no single security commander has been prosecuted for the killings.

Similarly, the victims have not received any justice or compensation despite the government making pledges.

At one point in time, the entire NUP team got arrested as Bobi Wine made his way to Kalangala district to extend his campaigns.

In some districts, they denied him accommodation services and often times hosts asked to vacate. All these injustices are well highlighted in the documentary film titled the “People’s President”.

“After reviewing the movie, the guys at NatGeo opted to rename it from Bobi Wine; the Ghetto President to the ‘People’s President. The movie will premiere on the National Geographic channel. The world shall see some of the things Gen. Museveni has been hiding and concealing for all these decades. It is a pinch of the much we waded through on our journey to freedom,” Bobi said yesterday.
