The high court declined a request by Bobi Wine to block URA from recalling the alleged armored vehicle earlier this week. In his application to court, the former presidential candidate said the car had already been assessed, taxes had been paid and the vehicle cleared for use.
He also added that the vehicle happened to be his only available means of transportation and therefore taking it away from him would make him suffer great losses. However, taking the vehicle away from Kyagulanyi wouldn’t cause him any irreparable injuries according to justice Emmanuel Baguma.
In an April,8, 2021 letter to Kyagulanyi’s lawyers of Wameli and Company Advocates, the acting Commissioner for Customs in URA, Asadu Kugozi Kisitu says that the tax body is now seeking to implement its earlier request to have the car reassessed.
“In light of the court ruling, we reiterate our earlier request to present the said motor vehicle to URA Nakawa inland port for re-verification exercise in the presence of your appointed agent not later than Friday, pril,9, 2021,”URA says.
According to URA, Bobi Wine is supposed to voluntarily handover the vehicle today, Friday without failure.
As for Bobi Wine, in his application told court that he was targeted by the state from the time he declared that he would challenge president Museveni in the recently concluded polls.
“The plaintiff has been a victim of such schemes from the government where his vehicle (Tundra) currently at Arua Central police station was illegally and unlawfully impounded and has been kept for over three years since 2018 under the guise of carrying out inquiries,” he told court.
He furthermore added that the same vehicle was assessed and cleared for use therefore it is not fair for him to undergo the same issues with his new vehicle.
Whether or not Kyagulanyi is to handover his vehicle, remains anyone’s guess at the moment.
