A statement also revealed that the previous CAF leadership decided on 17 July 2019 that a one-leg final will determine the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. This is unlike the usual in the past.
“CAF is therefore pleased to award the hosting of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022 Final to Morocco. The date of the final is 30 May 2022,” a statement read in part.
However, CAF is considering reverting to the two-legged final instead of one-off final according to the same statement.
“There are currently discussions underway within CAF to revert to the old two-legged home and away final. This is to determine the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, rather than the one-leg final,” the statement said.
Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca are likely to meet in the finals after posting huge wins in the first leg semis against ES Setif and Petro de Luanda respectively.
