This is to enable them to acquire new number plates as well as a tracking device. The aim is to implement an intelligent transport monitoring system.
The president of the country ordered for the digital license plates system to be out in place to curb crime.
Muhwezi made these revelations as he spoke at a signing ceremony of a 10-year contract between the government and a Russian firm. Joint Stock Company Global Security is the Russian company that will implement the project.
After the project its implementation, they will then hand it over to Uganda.
According to Muhwezi, the project will help deal with the problem of security. He said it will also provide government with a digital system that will monitor all automobiles in the country.
This artificial intelligence will back up other present measures such as CCTV cameras in some urban areas.
On behalf of the Ugandan government, permanent secretaries Bageya Waiswa and Yunus Kakande signed the agreement.
Ivan Skarban, a chief executive officer, and Eketeria Kunzetsova represented the Russian side during the signing.
Jim Muhwezi witnessed the signing of the agreement at the office of the president in Kampala on Friday. In a turn of events though, the lot did not reveal the cost of the project.
