Cheptegei beat rally driver Yasin Nasser, Golfer Irene Nakalembe, and cricketer Riazat Shah Ali to the award. The Uganda Police Force athlete had previously won three monthly Real Stars accolades.
Nasser who finished runner-up in the final Africa Rally Championship Standings finished second.
Rev. Can Duncan Mugumya spoke as the chief guest at the Fortbet Real Stars Awards on Tuesday at Spice Junction in Kololo. As the commissioner of physical Education and Sport, he said recognition of athletes motivates them.
‘’I want to thank the organizers for coming up with such an initiative. It really motivates the athletes. I myself was an athlete till the national level so don’t be surprised that I am a reverend but also involved in sports,’’ noted Mugumya.
‘’This was my third achievement from Fortbet. It means a lot to me and our country. It will motivate me to perform better next time,’’ said Nasser
Retired journalist Michael Alerenge received recognition through the legendary award.
For December’s finest, forward Hadijah Nandago was named the best footballer. Additionally, the U20 player played a major role as the national team eliminated South Africa in the 2022 FIFA U20 Women World Cup Qualifiers.
She also beat Eric Kambale of Express FC and Ceaser Manzoki of Vipers SC to the award.
