During the visit, Chinese ambassador Zhuqiang expressed gratitude towards the ministry of Foreign affairs and the Ugandan government at large. He thanked them for the tremendous support and cooperation he received that enabled him to carry out his duties successfully.
His political and economic were enhanced during his reign as seen through various exchanges of high-profile visits including President Museveni who visited China Twice. In a similar gesture, China’s State Councilor and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission’s office of the Chinese Communist Party visited Uganda twice.
The now-former ambassador has during his time seen a number of trade and investment programs and projects implemented. Some of these include industrial parks in Kapeeka, Mbarara, Mukono, and Mbale. The construction of the Kampala-Entebbe express highway also came during his time.
He played a great role in ensuring a number of Chinese investments in the country came to happen. He also raised his voice and said agricultural exports of Uganda to China will increase especially fruits, vegetables, beef, fish. These will be an addition to the already booming coffee exports.
Minister Oryem, during his farewell remarks, reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to strengthening the existing relationship between the two countries. He pointed out that the relationship between China and many African countries dates back to colonial times. This was when many countries were in the struggle for independence.
Oryem expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government in particular for the developmental support given to Uganda in various sectors especially education, health, defence among others.
