The late passed away two months ago on April 3 after he suffered a heart attack and was laid to rest at Rubaga Cathedral in Kampala.
Before his appointment, Dr. Lwanga served as the Bishop of Kasana-Luwero from 1996-2006. He then got appointed as the Kampala Archbishop in 2006 and had been serving in that position up until his death.
The Parish priest of Namugongo Catholic parish, Fr. Vincent Lubega, said Dr. Lwanga mainly offered to communities that worked under his guidance.
However, he also said the late always worked tooth and nail to ensure successful church activities as well as organizing of the Martyr’s Day.
‘’Archbishop (the late Dr. Lwanga) was working on behalf of the church. He was not alone, he worked with committees. He was a leader but the committees were there and the committees are still around,’’ Fr. Lubega said in a Tuesday interview.
He added that during the burial, Bishop Paul Ssemwogerere took on the mantle eliminating any form of vacuum anywhere. He said the leadership is still there and those assisting the leadership are also still there.
In other news, it is going to be the second time the Uganda Martyr’s will be commemorated virtually with only 200 invited guests. This is all in a move to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
Fr. Lubega said those who want to make the pilgrimage to Namugongo can still do so on other days in smaller numbers.
This will ensure that the standard operating procedures put in place by the Ministry of Health are observed.
